I think that statistic is under estimated, with the rise of social media platforms a lot of small enterprises are jumping on to the FB & Twitter bandwagon because it is easier for the one man operation to handle the work.

At the end of the day a SME mostly relies on word of mouth and regular clients. I website is simply just too much effort and costs.

A website is crucial for any business or an individual, it enables you to advertise your presentations and get the word out on the internet about your products.

I saw the report on BBC Wales this afternoon regarding this subject and like you I couldn’t believe that it’s true.

Perhaps the problem lies with the businesses in question thinking you need something flashy and over priced when a simple one page site would suit most companies.

I have to admit to having a hatred of the yellow pages and Thomsons directory now a days, again like you I believe in the printed world. I love books, newspapers and magazines but find directories such an archaic way of providing details YET people still pay to advertise in them and take out adverts which would be money better spent on creating an online presence.

First thing I do when I need information is hop on google and with mobile internet being as accessible as it is now its even more relevant that you have something online to say “hello, we’re here”.

So many companies must be missing out when there’s an incredibly simple solution at hand.

I was astonished too. Just starting an online push for a client who’s realised it pays much better than press advertising.
Being a regional journo too, I have a real affection for papers – but we have to move on and start seeing the power has shifted massively.
